Day Nine - Munich

It was McDonald's again for breakfast. Seriously, if you're in this neck of the woods, try the fruit & yoghurt.

After that we walked. It's only just gone 7, we've been home for about an hour and I am dead on my feet! I'm SO exhausted!

We wandered around the city, looking at shoes for the brother and stuff like that... Nothing too interesting. Because it was a Saturday, the city was 3 or 4 times as busy as it was normally. I can't explain the way it was. You were pushing through crowds just to walk down the street. It's insanity!! And at 5pm on a Saturday night, when you've been walking all day and the place you were keen on for dinner is just as packed as the streets are all you want to do is go home. So we grabbed a cheesey bratwurst in a bun (deliciously bad) and caught the subway home. Ta-Dah. Day Nine finito.

Also of note, some of the men here are gorgeous, although it seems to fade quite quickly as I spied no remarkable older gentlemen. They have no shame in wearing a slicked comb over, but it's a lot more attractive than it sounds, nice jackets and tight jeans. Not as many head turns as Paris, but it's noteworthy.

There are a heck of a lot of blue eyed, brown haired guys (the girls might be the same but I wasn't looking at them). LOTS of blue eyes. I'm a bit of a sucker for the dark hair, light eyes combo.... heh. Ahem.

It was brought to mum's attention that curls are not quite so 'in' here. Mum got some odd looks in a bathroom and she did a double take of the women in there, and none of them had curly, or even wavy hair. They had straightened hair. *yawn* I like my curls. It also seems that blonde is in, and bottle blonde is in. I don't mind the bleached to a natural looking blonde, but they don't seem to groove on that look. It was all a little bit same-same on the women-front. Although, I'm sure my brother would beg to differ!

The last thing I wanted to mention, I repeated to myself over and over after I saw her so I wouldn't forget to post it. I saw a lady today, perfectly coiffed, black shoes, black stockings, long black coat, black (fur lined I think) hat, long peroxide blonde hair and RED lipstick. She was an older lady, not attractive, but that entire look was so striking, and not an easy on to pull off in the midle of the day I would have thought. Major kudos to her!!

Anyway, I'm going to go, we head to Verona tomorrow and I am, despite my exhaustion, very excited! I'm not sure how often I'll get to blog while in Italy, I'm almost positive it won't be once a day! Hopefully I'll still manage to keep you updated ;)

Day Eight - Munich

Today. Was freezing! I was wearing 200dn tights (boys, go ask a girl what that means), knitted tights and thermals underneath a full length skirt, a tight singlet/tank top, a 3/4 sleeve crossover top, a long sleeve top, a leather jacket, a scarf and leather gloves. And if we didn't keep moving, I GOT COLD!! It's crazy. It's also really hard to manage the changes in temperature as all the stores are at a really comfortable level. You walk in, take all the layers off, walk out, put them all back on again!

This morning we caught the train into the city & went to McDonald's for breakfast. Don't think those thoughts, in Germany, they actually serve food that resembles the pictures!! AND they served some of the best fruit & yoghurt I've had. I think we'll be there tomorrow too...just quietly.

After that the boys wanted to go the BMW Museum (we should have gone too after all the photos and stories we saw and heard!). So mother & I were left to wander the streets... money in hand! We must have ben, once again in the expensive part of town. Even the clothes that were on special were €150+. However in one store I managed to find a Pandora counter! My intention was to add a Pandora bead for each country I visited, however finding a Pandora around where we were in London & Paris proved rather difficult. SO I made up for it and spent a good €100+ on the most gorgeous bead! I'll hopefully add a few more pieces during my stay in Italy too.

Then we wandered some more & sat in a cafe drinking cappucinos & hot chocolates to pass the time.

When the boys joined us we found an eatery that weighed your food to get the price. It was like a once only buffet. You filled up your plate, got any drinks & desserts (pre priced) that you wanted and then took your tray (cafeteria style) to the 'kasse'. Then they weighed your plate. €17.90 a kilo. =/ I ate 300gms or something close to that. Strange to see your meal in grams!!

We wandered the markets, keen to pass the hours between lunch and dinner so we could go to another bierhaus. It didn't happen. We found another market & 'stumbled' (followed mum blindly) inside. She was drawn in by the bread. One of the ladies there found a sucker family. We walked out with half a 'loaf' of bread... the loaf being about 40cm in diameter, a jar of pesto and a jar of capsicum/onion spread... Oh, and naturally dried apple chips. But I have to say, the food is delicious and it's all totally natural & of course it's also supporting the local farmers. Win!

Heading back to the hotel, we took the undergound (again so amayed at it's simplicity) and walked back in the crisp evening air. Bayer Munich are playing tonight so the boys have paid for the channel and are watching it ...in about 4 mintues. Right now the hotel lobby is full of Italians and I am drowning in happiness at the sound of their accents. *dream* 2 sleeps to go!

Tomorrow... I have no idea what we have planned. McDonald's for breakfast I'm sure. I am hoping to treat myself to a nice long bath as well as a shower...

Who knows... maybe it will snow tomorrow!

Day Seven - Munich

We left Paris REALLY early this morning! Like, before 7am, I'd just like to say it was not my doing, nor is it my idea of a holiday, but when costs & time in other countries comes into the mix, these things must be done.

We managed to make good time in getting to the train station so we sat and had pastries, coffee & hot chocolate for breakfast. I bought it all, so I was in charge of the ordering while the family lazed about watching others scramble to their trains. The attendant did not speak English, so I was forced to order in French. Fortunately, I managed to order it all and not get anything I *didn't* order. I can read the words all fine, but the pronounciation is the killer. Chausson aux pommes is more like "shasso' oh pom" and chocolate chaud is something akin to "shocola' sho". Very intimidating!! I wouldn't say he was overly 'nice' about the whole ordeal, but he wasn't unkind and he was patient. I felt very virtuous and proud of my small accomplishment. Even if it was on the last morning in Paris!

It was a six hour train trip and it was the loveliest. Germany has the most beautiful countryside I've seen thus far. It's just amazing. Pink houses, yellow houses, white houses, blue houses, each little town with a steeple letting you know where the heart of it lies. The towns are small, a set of cross streets lined with houses with big yards and stores, a few hundred metres more and you would miss it.

The sky got clearer and the air cooler but the sheer beauty of the place is simply breath taking.

This is also the first time I saw dad get visibly excited about the trip. FINALLY. *smiles*

Our hotel is no where near the city centre but it's only a short walk to the train station which is SO simple to use. We went to Haufenbräu Haus for dinner, my tummy had gotten used to smaller, lighter meals so it didn't handle the large steak & potatoes followed by apfel strudel too well. =S BUT it tasted divine and the atmosphere of the place was awesome!

We wandered the streets and I think we were in the up market area, so shopping was out of the question. However they did have an olde worlde area with stalls of old fashioned items. I'm talking real furs (fox feet still attached), wax seals, feather quills, felted bags - all that middle ages type stuff you'd see in a Robin Hood movie. It was brilliant!

The weather here is twice as cold, so I shall wear a few more layers tomorrow, it will be a top of 4 degrees!! EEP!

I feel like I am missing the real eel of the places in these posts, just sticking to the bare facts, but there are things I just can't capture in words, or they're more subconscious so I don't think to include them (like my obsession with the doors in these countries. They have some of the most ornate, large, unique doors I've seen in my life!). A lot of things I just forget to mention until after I've posted. At least I have the photos to help me remember. I have so many more to upload but I think I shall wait til I am home.

Germany was not my most ideal place to visit, and there isn't a whole lot here that interests me. I think this means mother and I get to go shopping while the boys look at cars & football & bier. And that's just fine by me! :)

After getting some amulgel/voltaren gel and wearing better shoes mz ankle is no longer causing me as much grief, or sleepless nights. Thank goodness for physios who will take the time out of their free time to work some more.
